FRIDAY NIGHT FISH: You’ve made it to Friday. Make it count.

29th April 2026

Why is Friday traditionally fish night?

The tradition of eating fish on Fridays stretches back centuries; it has become so deeply woven into British culture. The Friday night fish supper, whether a bag of chips from the local, a classic battered cod, or something altogether more considered, remains one of the great British rituals. And at Forman & Field, we think it deserves to be taken seriously.

What fish should I serve for Friday Nights?

May brings with it the return of the long Friday evening, that glorious stretch of hours when the working week is definitively behind you and the weekend opens up ahead. Some Fridays call for something effortless. Our Restaurant Collection Fishcakes, available in five brilliant varieties from Lobster & Salmon to Spicy Thai Crab, are eighteen minutes in the oven and completely delicious.

What is the perfect Friday night meal for a special occasion?

For a Friday that deserves something more of an occasion, our Fish Pie with Lobster Mash, Dover Sole, mussels, tiger prawns, Grade One Scottish salmon and smoked haddock beneath a hand-piped lobster mash, ready to bake in its wooden tray, is, quite simply, the best fish pie you will eat at home.

And for the Fridays that feel genuinely celebratory? Our Lobster Thermidor arrives rich, silky, and deeply satisfying, ready to warm and serve. All of the pleasure, none of the theatre.
