This year we launched our Smokehouse Tours to all our customers. Now everyone has the chance to experience what so many corporate groups before them have; to dive into the world of Formans!
Their day started off with a 30 minute talk on the history of H. Forman & Son (going back over 100 years!) led by our king of Smoked Salmon, Lance Forman . Following on from this, guests were kitted up in factory clothing, looking gorgeous of course, and made their way to the factory floor for a carving demonstration by our very own Guinness World Record Holder, Darren Matson. Darren has been carving salmon for over thirty years – we worked out that he has carved over a million sides of salmon, and watching him work his magic it’s clear he knows his stuff! Finally our groups were invited into Formans Restaurant & Bar, with an incredible view opposite the iconic and Olympic Stadium in one direction, and a viewing gallery that looks into the factory in the other direction. It’s here that our guests were given the chance to sample what they had seen being hand-crafted on the factory floor – a delicious smoked salmon platter for lunch. To top off the day, everyone received a complimentary pack of smoked salmon to take home with them, knowing exactly how it came from Scotland, via London’s East End, and all the way into their hands.
The feedback we got from those who attended our tours was staggering! To quote one of our guests, it was described as “The best day out – we are already thinking about booking for the next one!”. But wait, there’s more… You now have the option to purchase a Salmon Carving Masterclass with Darren Matson, which can be added on as an upgrade to your tour, or purchased as a luxury experience in its own right. A carving session (availincludes an hour long class where you will be taught by the master how to carve a side of smoked salmon. The salmon you carve will then be packaged up for you so you can take it home with you, and you’ll also receive a beautiful hardwood salmon carving board; a specialist Granton smoked salmon knife with Rosewood handle and a pair of expert stainless salmon boning tweezers. According to Lance Forman: “Carving your own side of smoked salmon is the best way to enjoy it; it’s a skill and a therapy rolled into one, great fun too and the best way to impress friends and family at your next dinner party or simply Sunday morning breakfast.
