FORMANS RESTAURANT CELEBRATES 1000 DAY COUNTDOWN TO 2012 WITH GOURMET WALNUT WHIP PLUS £20.12 MENU

On Saturday the 31st October, with but a mere 1000 day sprint left until 2012, Formans Restaurant will be fuelling the anticipation with a three course gala lunch at their riverside restaurant in the lee of the Olympic stadium. A similar event at the start of the three year countdown was attended by Ken Livingstone himself, unable to resist a peak at the project he merrily embarked on when in office.

1000 Day Countdown Lunch Menu

Forman’s Famous London Cure Smoked Salmon with Traditional Accompaniments

without Forman’s relocation to make way there would be no Olympic stadium

Wild Sea Bass with Vanilla Froth

no relation to Seabasstian Coe and with more desirable froth we would suggest

Gourmet Walnut Whip

our signature pudding, in honour of former Mayor Livingstone’s cost estimate of the Games

for the price of a walnut whip per week for Londoners.

Aside from the fiver-a-piece gourmet walnut whip, to prove Ken Livingstone right on his budget, the remainder of the menu is a positively frugal price of £20.12, with Award-winning English sparkling wine (Chapel Down’s Sparkling Brut) selling at £20.12 per bottle instead of the usual £32.50. Reservations from 12.00 noon.

“Only last week we hosted the Mayor of Beijing’s Olympic Haidian District at Forman’s restaurant who commented that this was the finest smoked salmon he had ever tasted and urged us to open a Beijing branch. Boris and Ken are huge fans too, but you don’t need to be a Mayor or a former Mayor to come and enjoy our Olympic Countdown Lunch looking across at the Stadium!”

Royal Mail Strikes – will we be affected?

With the news that Royal Mail workers are planning ongoing strike action in the run up to Christmas we would like to assure our customers that this will not affect our delivery service.

In general we use Parcelforce on the mainland or DHL overseas our delieries and neither will be affected by this industrial action. We also hold accounts with most other major carriers and are well prepared with contingency plans should our usual carriers be affected by any operational difficulty at any time.

Rest assured, Forman & Field parcels will always get through!

Competition winners from our open day announced!

The votes are in and the entries counted… we’re delighted to announce the winners of our hotly contested competitions!

Congratulations to Mr Jeremy Franks of London on winning our ‘guess the weight of the smoked salmon’ competition. Entrants had to estimate the total weight of 4 sides of Forman’s finest hanging from our rafters. Hundreds of entries varied from as little as 1KG up to a generous 888Kg… we suspect some confusion between grams and kilos in the latter case. Mr Franks was closest with a guess of 7.2Kg so just 80g under the actual weight of 7.12kg.

Perhaps even more importantly we must congratulate the brother and sister team of Lucas and Faith Clarke of Norwich for their fabulous artwork. The duo swept the board in the under and over 5s categories at this year’s ‘Forman Prize’ and will undoubtedly be heading for the Tate in the future. Their work is displayed below in all its glory.

A well advised note from Faith might have swayed the judges

Open Day 2009- a full smokehouse!

Thank you to everyone who came along to our Fish Island open day on Saturday.

Over 500 customers and local residents joined us at our HQ to browse stalls from Neal’s Yard Dairy, Montgomery Mutton, Musk’s Sausages, Paul Wayne Gregory, The Country Victualler, Emmett’s of Peasenhall, H Forman & Son and Forman & Field. Talks and demonstrations from Lance Forman, our own speedy slicer Darren Matson, Rob from Neal’s Yard and chocolatier Paul Wayne Gregory were really well received so thanks also to all of them. Our new restaurant catered for more diners than ever before which was fabulous to see, a sign of things to come we hope.

We’re still wading through entries for the ‘guess the weight of the salmon’ competition but will announce the winner very soon and will be in touch with them directly to arrange delivery of their prize. Congratulations of course to artists Lucas and Faith Clarke for their lovely colouring in, worthy winners of that competition indeed.

Hopefully we’ll host lots more similar events in the future. If you attended (or even if not) and you have any comments or suggestions please add them to the comments below. We’d love to hear from you as always.
